New Footscray Hospital – Construction Noise & Vibration Management

Located on the corner of Geelong and Ballarat Roads, the new Footscray Hospital will support the increasing demand from Melbourne’s booming western suburbs. With an increase of nearly 200 beds, the new hospital will treat approximately 15,000 additional patients and enable around 20,000 additional people to be seen by the emergency department each year.

Octave Acoustics was engaged by Multiplex through Delta Group to provide a noise and vibration management plan prior to the commencement of ground works, as well as to provide noise and vibration monitoring along each road surrounding the site at noise sensitive receivers while works were underway. Throughout the project, Octave Acoustics was involved in conducting attended measurements to confirm noise levels in various sensitive locations as well as providing reports calculating the noise and vibration impacts from rock breaking, excavator use, crane operation and concrete pumping.

As well as the specific site works, Octave Acoustics provided assistance with training on sound level meter use, assistance with noise complaint negotiation, procedures for works conducted after normal work hours and the preparation of an updated site report for Multiplex, incorporating the recent changes to EPA noise criteria.
