Victorian Big Battery

Octave Acoustics was engaged to provide a peer review of the noise impact assessment for the Victorian Big Battery project. Perhaps counter intuitively, battery and solar installations can generate significant levels of noise. This noise is typically generated by a combination of invertors and cooling equipment.

Octave Acoustics review determined that the noise wall specification (designed to mitigate noise impacts to compliance with the applicable EPA policy) was unlikely achieve the required performance. This resulted in further negotiations between the developer and battery proponent which resulted in relocation of the big battery to a more suitable location.

Octave Acoustics role in this engagement included extensive noise modelling and provision of assistance with negotiations.
