Woolworths Fresh Distribution Centre (MFDC)

The MFDC allows Woolworths to deliver fresh fruit, vegetables, meat and chilled products to more than 230 Victorian supermarkets faster and more efficiently. The facility’s 38,000m² built area includes 27,270m² of temperature-controlled warehousing, 5,678m² of ambient warehouse, 2,700m² of office space, a 4,442m² multi-level car park and 61,000m² of hardstand including loading docks, truck parking, and truck wash and maintenance areas.

The facility required a 5 Star Green Star rating. Octave Acoustics was engaged to provide advice, documentation and as-built testing to achieve the targeted acoustic credits. Key challenges included:

1. Achieving the the required levels of internal sound insulation using forms of construction appropriate for a cold store facility.
2. Control of excessive noise emissions from server installations.
3. Facade and glazing design to control noise intrusion from the significant heavy vehicle movements on the site.

Verification testing demonstrated that all acoustic design targets were met. All three acoustic Green Star credits were achieved.
