Trinity College Student Accommodation

Octave Acoustics was engaged to provide comprehensive acoustic consultancy services to the design, documentation and construction of Trinity College’s new student accommodation building.

Key considerations involved:

• Development of robust curtain wall junction details to maintain BCA/NCC compliant sound insulation between student suites.
• Provision of high levels of sound insulation to the music practice facility including, design of external glazing and treatments to prevent music noise transfer via mechanical ducting.
• Design and documentation to achieve the project specific criteria for foot fall noise. A successful outcome was demonstrated via insitu testing
• Design and coordination of mechanical attenuation treatments to provide quiet amenity within the building whilst controlling external noise emissions in accordance with best practice and EPA requirements.

Preoccupancy testing confirmed that the completed building complied with the project acoustic requirements. This successful outcome was the result of close collaboration with the project team under the guidance of Hayball as lead consultant and latter under Harris HMS as D&C contractor.
