Essendon Football Club Next Generation Academy
Octave Acoustics was engaged to provide comprehensive acoustic consultancy services to the Essendon Football Club Next Generation Academy project. Essendon Football Club prides itself on providing support to the community and as a result, chose to develop it’s existing facility at Tullamarine – ‘The Hangar’ – to include the Next Generation Academy. The Academy provides a range of facilities supporting the Club and community groups such as AFLW and VFL including:
- Multipurpose training areas and small auditorium spaces for team strategy and tactic talks.
- Nine dorm rooms with ensuites (five accommodating to wheelchair athletes).
- Flexible unisex change rooms, medical rooms, massage and strapping areas.
- Kitchen, study and communal spaces.
- Multipurpose education space featuring a large function room.
- Consulting suits for medical staff.
- A generous glass atrium that heralds the new entry accessed via a welcoming stair.
- A welcoming parkland for community use with picnic tables, a playground, fitness station and seating around the oval.
Octave Acoustics collaborated with the project design team, stakeholders and builder to develop, coordinate and deliver premium acoustic outcomes throughout. Key design considerations included provision of:
- Building Code / National Construction Code compliant sound insulation to the residential dorm rooms.
- Reverberation and noise control within front of house spaces including the entry atrium and museum.
- High levels of speech privacy to the boardroom and medical consulting suites.
- Auditorium acoustics.
- Appropriate levels of attenuation to mechanical systems.
