CyberCX Office Fit-out, 330 Collins Street, Melbourne

CyberCX is Australia’s leading independent cyber security firm, formed in 2019 through the amalgamation of 17 established companies to advise government and critical industries. Its new Melbourne headquarters at 330 Collins Street was conceived as the flagship for the merged organisation, a benchmark for the offices that would follow.

Octave Acoustics was engaged by CyberCX, under the direction of project managers Monto Projects, to provide acoustic consultancy for the fit-out across Levels 3 and 4. The brief demanded a workplace that balanced open, collaborative floors with the acoustic discretion a security organisation requires.

Working from the Association of Australasian Acoustical Consultants Guideline for Commercial Building Acoustics and AS2107:2016, Octave Acoustics established performance criteria across the full spectrum of spaces, from open work areas, breakout zones and meeting rooms through to focus rooms, IT labs and the Secure Operations Centre (SOC). Speech privacy was central: partitions serving front-of-house meeting rooms were upgraded to give the client a heightened level of confidentiality where it mattered most.

The SOC and secure zones presented the defining challenge. To support Zone 3 security certification, Octave Acoustics specified wall and door constructions achieving the required sound isolation, and detailed the acoustic sealing, penetration treatments and mechanical services measures — including vibration isolation of plant and hydraulics — needed to deliver a quiet, controlled and secure environment throughout.

Delivered during the COVID-19 period, the project is a strong example of Octave Acoustic’s capability across commercial fit-out, secure facilities and the interface between acoustic performance and security certification.
