Project Overview

Octave Acoustics provided acoustic consultancy services for the Bayside Warm Water Pool, a new community aquatic and wellbeing facility located within the Brighton Public Golf Course precinct. Delivered for Bayside City Council, the project comprises two purpose‑built warm water pools within separate pool halls, together with change facilities, allied health spaces, staff and administration areas, café and extensive pool and building services infrastructure.

The facility is designed to support rehabilitation, therapy, gentle exercise and inclusive community use, requiring careful acoustic control within a highly serviced aquatic environment and close proximity to sensitive internal uses.

Our Role

Octave Acoustics worked as part of the multidisciplinary design team from early design through to detailed documentation, providing integrated acoustic advice to support planning, design development and construction documentation. Our services addressed internal acoustic comfort, sound insulation, mechanical and hydraulic plant noise and vibration, and environmental noise compliance, while supporting the project’s sustainability aspirations.

Scope of Services

• Environmental Noise Assessment
  Attended and unattended background noise monitoring to establish site‑specific noise criteria for compliance with the Environment Protection Regulations 2021.
• Internal Acoustic Design
  Design targets and treatment strategies for pool halls, change rooms, staff areas, first aid, allied health and public spaces addressing internal noise levels, reverberation times and speech intelligibility in accordance with AS/NZS 2107 and AAAC guidelines.
• Sound Insulation & Building Fabric
  Specification of wall, door and glazing constructions to control noise transfer between high‑activity pool spaces and noise‑sensitive areas, including detailed partition schedules and marked‑up plans.
• Mechanical & Hydraulic Services Acoustics
  Assessment and specification of noise and vibration controls for HVAC systems, heat pumps, pool plant, pumps and hydraulics, including sound power limits, duct lining requirements, vibration isolation and rooftop plant acoustic treatments.
• Green Star – Acoustic Comfort
  Preparation of an acoustic comfort strategy to support Green Star requirements, addressing maximum internal noise levels, acoustic separation and reverberation control.
• Acoustic Specification & Documentation
  Preparation of a comprehensive acoustic specification integrated with architectural and services documentation to support tendering and construction.

Outcome

The Bayside Warm Water Pool achieves appropriate acoustic comfort and amenity across a diverse range of aquatic and support spaces, balancing robust acoustic performance with durability, buildability and cost efficiency. Octave Acoustics’ involvement ensured compliance with relevant standards and regulations while supporting Bayside City Council’s objectives for an inclusive, high‑quality community facility.
